Bachelor of Commerce- The course and where you can expect to work.

Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM), is one of the most in demand courses in the country.

Simply because it offers one the opportunity to study management, the course is like by many students who hope to one day become managers. Bachelor of commerce is offered in nearly all public Universities, Private Universities and leading colleges. The course is closely related to Business Administration and Business management. Usually, a student studies the general principles of management for the first two years before specializing in the rest of the two years. The broad generalizations of the course include marketing, Accounting and Finance,
insurance and Human Resources. If one is good in Math, then they would most definitely choose accounting and finance.

Career paths that one can pursue after studying accounting and finance include business analyst, business development manager, auditor, chief finance officer, accountant, accounts clerk, finance director, investment analyst, banker, insurance analyst, risk analyst etc. If one is lucky enough to pursue land a job in the finance/accounting field, they can expect to start with salaries between kshs.25, 000 and kshs.45, 000. Some of the best paying employers in this sector include KPMG, Pricewaterhousecoopers (PWC), Deloitte and Ernst&Young. You can also work in banks, insurance etc. The point is that every business needs an accountant/finance specialist for it to function properly, so you won’t be making a bad bet by pursuing this trend. One also needs to add on some more qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, CFA and computer literacy.

If one pursues marketing, they are likely to become brand managers, marketing managers, sales managers, advertising executive etc. Human resource field is one of the fastest growing skills in the country, and in the world. As skills become important to the survival of a company, human resource professionals are becoming more powerful in the office. Some of the jobs that human resource professionals do include hiring, firing, staff training and development, keeping employees records, deciding compensation levels etc. The se days at least, the Human resource executive gets the same chair as the Finance guy in front of the CEO. These days, human resource is usually referred to as human capital.   2. I think they are in most cases the same considering that both lead to similar professions e.g accounts, finance n generaly management.
