Bachelor of Biostatistics/bachelor of Bioinformatics is one of the recently introduced degree programs in Kenyan Universities.
It combines elements of Biology, biochemistry, chemistry, statistics and some computer programming to come up with data on various issues in biology. For instance, if one wanted to investigate the
spread of malaria, or the causes of malaria in a certain area, then they would need a biostatistics/bioinformatics professional.
The data collected from the field is input into a computer, and then a computer program is run to draw conclusions from the research. There are of course other areas where the skills of biostatisticians are needed, but it is along the medical/ health or related areas. Your work will almost always be some form of a research. Possible employers could be Kemri, Ministry of health, hospitals and private research laboratories.
