Bachelor of Education- The course and where you can work.

There is a huge demand for teachers in the country given the huge deficit in learning institutions especially public shools. Due to the need for continuous training, many teachers are returning to campus in order to pursue the degree program. For instance, primary teachers have been returning to school in order to seek promotions as head teachers of primary schools or other lucrative district and provincial education committees.

Usually, one will take a combination of two subjects, although the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), wanted to increase that to three sometime back. It was thought that this would make better use to teachers. Given the improved working conditions of teachers in recent years, it is no wonder it is one of the most sought after degrees, both in the regular and the parallel program. In their third year, the student teachers go for practical attachment to schools where there teaching skills are then gauged. The most probable career path is becoming a teacher in high school, or in one of the schools that pursue an international curriculum.

To be sure, teaching isn’t the only career path that one can take when they pursue the bachelor of education degree. One can take other career paths. For instance, one can become a human resource professional. Since teachers are usually involved in training and development, they can help in the training and development of talent among the employees. Some can also pursue the development of curriculum for students or open educational consultancies.

Kenyatta University used to be the default training for the bachelor of education degree but this is no longer the case since University of Nairobi, Moi, daystar, MMUST, Egerton and nearly all the Universities have introduced the bachelor of Education degree course.
